At least 105 people have been killed in Syria as a result of an earthquake

According to the Syrian American Medical Society, at least 105 people perished in Syrian opposition regions on Monday morning as a result of a significant earthquake.

Bassel Termanini, Chairman of SAMS, told dpa that the organization covered almost half of the healthcare in the districts.

Termanini stated that 105 people have been killed and over 600 have been critically injured, primarily in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib.

He went on to say that the figures were expected to grow as rescue efforts proceeded and patients were found from the earthquake wreckage.

“We are in disaster territory; some of my family members are still under the rubble,” Ibrahim al-Haj, a spokesperson for the volunteer White Helmets rescue organization in Aleppo’s countryside, told dpa.

According to him, the majority of the injured had skull fractures as well as broken legs and arms.
