Seidu Baba, a member of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has stated that the Forum will not support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential nominee, Atiku Abubakar, as a consensus candidate.
Baba made the announcement at a news conference in Abuja on Saturday.
He stated that, despite the former vice president’s efforts to be endorsed as the sole candidate of the North, the NEF has not approved him.
According to him, the NEF’s 10th anniversary was not to endorse Atiku as the North’s consensus candidate.
“Atiku has no credentials to be the sole Northern Presidential contender,” he says.
“There was an attempt to persuade and perhaps force the NEF to adopt him (Atiku), demonstrating how desperate he is.
“Many individuals believe that, despite the Governor’s assertion,”
“There is no way Atiku can be a Northern candidate because he does not know them and we do not know him.
“It is believed Atiku got wind of his rejection the reason he failed to show up at the NEF Assembly and could not send any representative.
“Atiku has not been seen as somebody who is close to the North, because he has not been fair to us.
“He is somebody that have his base outside the North.”
