Women Political Leaders, WPL, has named Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili as its new board chairperson.
Ezekwesili succeeds Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand and currently Chair Emeritus of the board.
WPL aims to enhance the number, influence, and effect of women in political and leadership roles worldwide.
The organization is the first to be founded by thousands of female political leaders from over 130 nations.
Heads of state and government, ministers, MPs, and municipal and regional leaders are among the members.
“It is an honor to serve as Chair of the WPL Board,” Ezekwesili stated of his new position.
Former Education Minister and World Bank Vice President, he co-founded Transparency International.
Ezekwesili is the Senior Economic Advisor of the Africa Economic Development Policy Initiative and the founder and chair of Human Capital Africa.
The expert was named to Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People and is a Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
FixPolitics, chaired by Ezekwesili, petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari this week to order the shutdown of tertiary institutions before the 2023 elections.
