Fifth columnists are using Emefiele against the APC, according to an Oyo senator

Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, member of the House of Representatives representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, has stated that fifth columnists are using the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, governor, Godwin Emefiele, against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The lawmaker’s outburst came amid a paucity of new naira notes, which has left Nigerians frustrated with their inability to obtain payments.

In a statement on Saturday, the female legislator, who is the House Committee Chairman on Diaspora, said it was clear that the CBN had turned itself into a tool in the hands of the opposition, calling the hardship as sad and undeserved.

“CBN has made itself a weapon for the opposition and fifth columnists in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who are behind this suffering for political benefits in the impending February 2023 elections,” according to the statement.

“The paucity of available currency in the Nigerian economy has resulted in enormous hardship for the people of Nigeria as a result of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) policies and lack of supply of the new naira notes.”

She stated that the Central Bank governor must assume responsibility for the hardships that Nigerians are experiencing, and that it is unacceptable for the country to endure at this time.

Despite being a worthy initiative, she believes the uncertainty was caused by a lack of vision and planning.

The member decried the persistent scarcity of fuel, which she blamed on smuggling, and wondered how the country ended itself in this mess just weeks before elections.

“Anyone who intends to sabotage for political benefit is not acting in the best interests of the nation, and such behavior is unacceptable,” Akande-Sadipe said.

“We will not allow a few individuals to hold this nation hostage for their own selfish objectives. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s new administration intends well for Nigerians. His antecedence and continuous strategy as Governor of Lagos speaks for itself”.
