The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, urged commercial banks in Gombe State on Saturday not to short-change Nigerians during the currency crisis.
The apex bank, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, announced this shortly after a meeting with commercial banks in Gombe.
The Deputy Director of the CBN’s Financial Markets Department, Aliyu Ashiru, stated that the meeting was held to guarantee strict compliance with CBN requirements.
Ashiru warned banks against attempting to undermine the circulation of the new naira.
He urged residents to be patient with the CBN and the government.
“The gathering is in furtherance to our interaction with banks to smoothen all the rough edges in implementing the naira redesign strategy.
“Over time, we’ve spoken with them and developed strategies to promote the project such that the advantages benefit everyone,” he explained.
