Manchester City issued a statement on Monday in response to the Premier League’s announcement accusing them of multiple financial violations.
The champions could be kicked out of the top flight or lose points.
The club is said to have infringed laws mandating provision “in greatest good faith” of “accurate financial information that gives a truthful and fair perspective of the club’s financial status”.
The Etihad club, on the other hand, expressed astonishment in a statement, “considering the considerable engagement and large amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.”
City also stated that it “welcomes an independent commission’s assessment of this subject, to impartially consider the substantial body of indisputable evidence that exists in support of its stance.”
Pep Guardiola’s team is currently second in the table.
City were defeated 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, extending Arsenal’s five-point lead.
