Previous Naira Notes Will Be Valid Tender Until December 31 – Supreme Court
Nigerians should continue to use old N200, N500, and N1000 bills as legal cash, according to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court, in a unanimous ruling by a seven-member panel of Justices, ruled that the old banknotes shall continue to be acceptable legal tender until December 31, 2018.
It was decided that the old Naira notes should be used alongside the new currencies.
It chastised President Muhammadu Buhari for implementing the demonization program without consulting the Council of States, the Federal Executive Council, civil society, and other important parties.
The Supreme Court, in the main judgment issued by Justice Emmanuel Agim, accused President Buhari of breaching an interim injunction that suspended the full trial.
