Sen Adeyemi said the Naira redesign is intended to cause hardship for citizens

Senator Smart Adeyemi has lashed out at the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, claiming that the Naira redesign was intended to cause hardship for ordinary Nigerians.

The senator, who represents the Kogi West Senatorial District, branded the cashless policy as callous, citing the hardships that have been endured with no end in sight.

Adeyemi claimed at a press conference in Abuja on Saturday that the apex bank governor was following the script of some cabals in the government in order to cause the All Progressives Congress, APC, to lose the election later this month.

According to him, the strategy was designed to ensure that the APC did not win the election since the cashless policy was undermining the APC’s political chances because citizens were complaining about a lack of cash to meet their daily necessities.

Adeyemi claimed that poor people are cursing the governor of the Central Bank, and he urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene.

“I am in support of the need to alter the currency, but I am not in support of the way and manner the whole process is being done.

“Many died because they had no cash to buy drugs, and some died due of excessive blood pressure. The big men have money stashed away in their homes. “President Buhari’s seven-day deadline is insufficient to accomplish change,” he stated.

He argued that suffering had become excruciating now, before it was too late, even as he stated that as a “elected Senator, people have been wondering, how would they pay money to earn money?

“Artisans are dying every day,” Adeyemi remarked.
