Ogechi Okoroafor, a 28-year-old graduating student at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, has revealed that the controversy surrounding her recent statement is making her depressed.
Okoroafor came under fire after releasing a video in which she claimed she graduated with the help of God and her private parts.
The institution condemned the act, and many others chastised her.
“This is to inform the general public that the Management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, has begun full investigations into the identity of the student who boasted on Tiktok about graduating with the help of God and her private organ,” the institution stated.
But addressing journalists in Owerri on Friday, the student said her remark was a “slip of tongue”.
“When I said God and my p**sy, I couldn’t have meant it. Who has the audacity to say such a thing? It was just a slip of the tongue. “I meant to say God and my Popsy, my father,” she corrected herself.
“You know when you’re ecstatic about overcoming school stress as a graduate. I was thanking God and my father, who loves me and has been there for me throughout my stay in Polynekede.
When asked if she had been summoned by the school administration, she replied,
“Earlier this week, I appeared before the Disciplinary Panel. I was shown a video and asked to respond. I explained that it was a typo and a slip of the tongue. I begged forgiveness. They saw how sorry I was and assumed it was a mistake.
“I pray not to resit my exams as a disciplinary measure because it’s going to be a big task to me. It is difficult to go through this stress again. I have asked the management to forgive me and release me.
“I am ready to undergo any corporal punishment to show them how remorseful I am. Even if it means sweeping the school grounds for several weeks. I wouldn’t have gotten a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.8 in my ND program if I was a bad student.
“I just hope the school will forgive me. I know I made a mistake, and everyone is free to judge me, but please know that I am truly sorry.
“Seeking legal redress will aggravate the situation. I’m not even going to consider it. It will imply that my apologies are not sincere. I’m hoping for forgiveness.
“I come from a responsible family in the Umueze Umuhu community of Imo state’s Ngor Okpala LGA. My parents are still alive, but not in good health. My mother has knee problems that make it difficult for her to walk. Because they live in the village, they are unaware of the situation.
“I sincerely regret the entire situation. I had no idea it would get this far. I’m spiraling into depression. My name is making the rounds for all the wrong reasons. So I said I did the video on purpose to make it popular. This is not correct. I don’t want to be remembered for the wrong reasons. I just hope this is over soon.”
