There is no better country than Nigeria; stop putting your lives in danger by seeking greener pastures – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency warned Nigerians not to put their lives in danger by seeking greener pastures elsewhere, because their country is better than others.
NEMA gave the advice after revealing that it had returned 1,003 Nigerians stranded in Niger Republic and Libya to Nigeria in 2022.

Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, the agency’s Coordinator of its Kano Territorial Office, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Saturday that the exercise had the support of the International Organization for Migration.

“The returnees were brought back from Agadez (Niger Republic), Khartoum, Libya, and Chad by the IOM through a voluntary repatriation program.

He went on to say that of the 1,003 returnees received between April and December 2022, 665 were male adults, 113 were female adults, and 225 were children.

One hundred and eight of the children are girls.

“Among the states represented were Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto, Lagos, and Kano,” he said.

“There are opportunities all around you. To survive, you don’t need to insist on White Collar jobs; all you need is determination,” Abdullahi said.

He stated that massive campaigns by relevant stakeholders were required to educate the populace about the dangers of seeking greener pastures abroad.

“There is also a need for strict border surveillance.

“Traffickers who transport Nigerians in search of greener pastures should be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law as a deterrent to others,” Abdullahi said.

NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migration, and Internally Displaced Persons, as well as other relevant government agencies, received the returnees in 2022.
