Yobe Mai Mala Buni State Governor Mala Buni has approved the secondment and deployment of 2,670 people to the Ministry of Environment to act as coordinators and supervisors in the climate change adaptation project.
The approval was announced in a statement released on Friday by Governor Buni’s media aide Mamman Mohammed, noting that the staff came from the state’s 17 local government areas.
In the statement, state environment commissioner Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa said 15 coordinators and supervisors in each of the state’s 178 departments will serve to carry out various tasks to manage climate change challenges.
Karasuwa further explained that the massive deployment of personnel to work under the project was to effectively control the threat of climate change in the state. “We are determined to address the threat to revive agriculture and ensure food security,” he said.
Karasuwa said social organizations would be encouraged to join and take ownership of the project.
